Prison Inmate Dies Following Fight

SPRINGFIELD, SD -
A South Dakota prison inmate is dead following a fight with a fellow inmate at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield.
The Department of Corrections says 62-year-old Dennis Lashley died following a fight with 49-year-old Kendall Osteen. Lashley was found unresponsive in his room Tuesday morning; he was pronounced dead at a Tyndall hospital.
Preliminary information from the DOC indicates no weapons were involved. The Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating and will review security camera footage. There's no word on whether Osteen faces charges.
Osteen was serving a five-year sentence from 2006 for fourth offense driving while intoxicated (DWI) out of Pennington County; his sentenced was scheduled to expire on Tuesday.
Lashley was sentenced to 15 years in prison for a fifth offense DWI out of Minnehaha County.
An autopsy will be done on Lashley.
