The power outage in Sioux Falls impacted many stores up and down Minnesota Avenue, forcing some to close their doors.
Inside the Lewis store, workers were busy moving ice cream, eggs and milk out of the coolers Monday morning. The store had hoped to leave the items in the coolers but after about five hours, the temperature was starting to rise so employees are taking those items to another store to stay cold.
Even though the power is back on now, it will still take a few hours for the coolers to get back to the right temperatures to put the items back in.
The manager at Lewis says all the products will be inspected to make sure they are safe before they are put back on the shelves.
Hy-Vee on Minnesota Avenue also had to pull all of its perishable items off the shelves because of the outage.
Xcel Energy officials say the outage was caused by an equipment failure, which was caused by the freezing rain, snow and wind that hit the Sioux Falls area overnight.
