Power Out In Large Area Of Sioux Falls
January 22, 2010, 4:11 PM
A problem with a transformer in Sioux Falls has caused an extensive area of the city to lose power. While crews are working to fix the cause of the outage, it is expected power will be out for several hours.
The city says the area affected is at least from 12th Street south to 82nd Street and I-229 on the east side to Louise Avenue. Other areas may also be affected as well.
Stop lights at several intersections around the city are dark. City crews have a limited number of generators that will provide power, along with battery backup, at certain intersections. Police will direct traffic at other intersections.
If you come upon an intersection without power or an officer, police say you need to stop before proceeding. That situation is to be treated as if you are at a four-way stop.
