Post Holiday Sales

December 26, 2012, 9:50 PM by Angela Kennecke

Post Holiday Sales
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

While nationally people held onto their wallets a little tighter this holiday season; local retailers in KELOLAND are reporting strong sales this year.

Retailers call the time after Christmas the "Second Season." The last week of December accounts for 15 percent of the month's sales. It's also a big week for bargain shoppers.

You may be tiring of Christmas decorations, but when you get them at half off or more, it's enough to get some folks into the spirit of next year's season.

"A lot of the stuff is already 50 to 60 percent off, so I think it's a great time if you want to redo everything," Shopper Marta Fandel said.

Angela Kennecke: How much money do you think you're saving today?
Lisa Perry: Probably about $40. A lot.

Now the true bargain shoppers will get out the day after Christmas to find the best selection. And the deals will be discounted even steeper as the week goes on, but the inventory will shrink.

"There's still a good selection of that clearance stuff to come in and get a good deal on, but we did have really good cleanup at all of our stores and especially my store.  So if people are interested, they should get out as soon as possible," Bob Deaton of Lewis Drug said.

Lewis Drug says it's pre-Christmas sales look strong and it expects post holiday sales to round off the year in a positive manner, so it can focus its efforts on the next shopping season.

"For us we'll be rolling into looking at the spring season as soon as we possibly can," Deaton said.

And making room for lawn and garden means all this holiday merchandise will continue to be discounted until it's gone.
