Positively KELOLAND: Hotel Shows Firefighters Gratitude With Griddles

In anticipation of National Waffle Day on Sunday, one of Sioux Falls newest hotels opened its doors to first responders. Firefighters enjoyed waffles with all the fixings during Thursday's "Say Thank You With Waffles" event.

Sioux Falls firefighters put this Comfort Inn & Suites waffle maker to the test Thursday and they had plenty of choices.

"Looks like we got some cherries and whip cream and peanut butter," Captain Allen Hallstrom said.

"I had a strawberry with some whip cream on it," Firefighter Scott Rieland said.

Inviting the firefighters to breakfast is a way for the hotel to show its gratitude with griddles.

"You know they're the ones that are out there looking out for us every day so we thought we'd do something nice for them once," Guest Service manager Nicole Raml said

These firefighters appreciate the sentiment.

"Just our general every day stuff, checking the truck out and stuff like that, came in and he said we were going to have some waffles. That's always a good surprise," Rieland said.

The event isn't exclusive to local first responders in Sioux Falls; it's something the hotel does across the country.

"Hopefully next year we're planning something much larger, inviting the families and stuff. Doing something in the evenings so more of them can attend," Raml said.

And if this year's waffle inspection holds any weight, you know many will return.

"They're delicious," Hallstrom said.

National Waffle Day is this coming Sunday.
