Rapid City police are considering whether to charge a liquor store clerk who fired a warning shot into the air after thieves stole two bottles of vodka.
The clerk was working at Canyon Lake Liquors around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when a man entered and stole the booze. The man fled on foot with another man waiting outside.
The clerk gave chase with a handgun and fired into the air when he reached the other side of the street. The suspects dropped one bottle but continued to run and were gone by the time police arrived.
Police say store workers have the right to protect themselves, but the clerk was never threatened and might be charged with recklessly discharging a firearm within city limits.
