Police Investigate Red Rock Inn Robbery

September 26, 2012, 4:54 PM by Shawn Neisteadt

Police Investigate Red Rock Inn Robbery
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

For the second time in less than two weeks, Sioux Falls police are investigating a violent robbery at a business.

Police were called to the Red Rock Inn just after 3 a.m. Wednesday. They say it was a quick robbery.

"He came into the hotel, went behind the desk, ended up hitting the manager with some kind of object, took some cash and then left," Officer Sam Clemens said.

Clemens says hotels are rather unusual robbery targets, but like any business, they can fall victim.  It was less than two weeks ago when The Attic Bar and Grill was robbed in the morning hours.  In that case, the employee wasn't hurt but was pushed into an office; the suspect took money and then left. Police aren't drawing a connection between the two, but both are an oddity for investigators.

"Most of the time, the robberies we have we don't have force that is used, at least with businesses," Clemens said.

Police say surveillance cameras can help in solving these cases, but may not prevent future crimes.  That's why employees should always be cautious no matter where you work.

"The businesses have told their employees don't resist and give the money; that's replaceable.  That way we don't have people that are injured or killed. But there is a certain risk when you have a business that's open all night," Clemens said.

The suspect in the Red Rock Inn robbery is described as a Hispanic man about 6' tall and 210 pounds.  He was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and black jeans.

The Attic suspect was described as a heavy-set white male, 5' 6" tall. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and a black ski mask.
