Police Chief Fired In Western SD Town Of Whitewood
September 23, 2011, 9:40 AM
WHITEWOOD, SD -
The mayor of Whitewood says she has fired the western South Dakota town's police chief.
Mayor Debra Schmidt did not disclose the reason for terminating Ben Koens. She said only that it was the "only alternative" and in the best interests of the town.
Koens had been the chief since last October. A home telephone listing for him could not immediately be found.
Schmidt said Lawrence County Sheriff Rick Mowell will be the interim police chief until a replacement for Koens is found.
