This week's crash at a West 12th Street hotel is a reminder of the dangers that surround us every time we get on the road.
Police say 21-year-old Andrew Severson was under the influence of prescription pills and possibly huffing when he crossed through traffic, cruised through a gas station parking lot and crashing into a hotel.
That crash happened after 4 p.m. Monday on one of the busiest streets in Sioux Falls. And while you don't expect anyone to be under the influence at that time of day, it's a real possibility.
That's why police say you should be defensive and always on the lookout for what other drivers are doing.
If you see someone swerving in and out of lanes or driving erratically you should call it in.
And whether it’s driving under the influence, texting and driving, talking on the phone or even changing the radio, there are many distractions to watch out for these days.
Coming up tonight on KELOLAND News, Ben Dunsmoor will ride with a Sioux Falls traffic officer to talk about what every driver should be looking for on the streets when they get behind the wheel.
