SIOUX FALLS, SD -
A new form of renewable fuels will soon be produced at a plant in Emmetsburg, Iowa.
Ethanol producer Poet and global biotech company, DSM, are teaming up to make Cellulosic Ethanol.
This brand new form of ethanol was introduced at the South Dakota Biotech Summit on Thursday. The plant being built in Iowa will be one of the first in the world.
Poet DSM says this is the next step for renewable fuels.
"We're taking corn crop residue, so basically what's a waste product, and turning that into a new renewable fuel that's good for the economy, good for the environment and good for energy security," Steve Hartig with Poet DSM said.
Hartig says farmers have been most interested in the fact that it has been proven to be sustainable for a long time.
