A Texas-based pipeline manufacturer is starting work on a plant that could employ up to 40 people in western South Dakota.
Reports say that the company has been working on the project since last spring, and it closed a deal on land in Belle Fourche this past week.
The plant will make high-density polyethylene pipe for the oil industry in North Dakota and Montana. It also plans to sell pipes to cities for domestic water supplies.
Belle Fourche Mayor Gary Hendrickson says the new plant is the first success in the city's effort to cash in on the oil field boom in North Dakota.
