Pine Ridge Shooting

July 22, 2003, 7:34 AM

A shooting at Pine Ridge left one man dead and a teenage girl hospitalized. Late Saturday night tribal police officers responded to a report of shots fired in a housing development.

Authorities say the officers were talking to two people outside an abandoned house when someone inside the house began shooting. A 17-year-old girl was hit in the stomach and is hospitalized.

BIA investigator Charles Fischer says a police officer returned fired, killing 22-year-old Alex Desera who was in the house. Fischer says an assault rifle and more than 100 rounds of ammunition were found next to Desera's body.
