Black Lives Matter Marathon Rally Creates Division, Anger

Black Lives Matter Marathon Rally Creates Division, Anger

A plan by the St. Paul chapter of Black Lives Matter to disrupt Sunday's Twin Cities Marathon is sparking division and anger.

More than 11,000 runners are expected to participate in the race. Black Lives Matter says it's planning on "shutting down" the event to raise awareness about incidents involving St. Paul police and people of color.

Runners are concerned about potential conflict. For some, a delay could prevent them from earning a qualifying time for the Boston marathon.

Even some who support the group say it's making a mistake by threatening to disrupt an event many people spend months training for.

Ashley Oliver belongs to Black Lives Matter-Minneapolis. Shesaid that disrupting the marathon is the wrong way to get the group's message out.
