A Pierre woman has pleaded guilty in federal court to making false statements to a federal agency.
Prosecutors say Kelsey Howe lied about knowing the whereabouts of Jason Garreau who was involved in a shootout near Fort Thompson in October with law enforcement. One person was killed.
Kelsey Howe entered the guilty plea last week. Howe had earlier been indicted on the charge and had initially pleaded innocent, requesting a jury trial. She later agreed to a plea bargain in the case.
Howe faces up to six months in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.
