Pierre Teen Accused Of Killing Boy Seeks Freedom
Braiden McCahren

PIERRE, SD -

Lawyers for a Pierre teen accused of killing a classmate are trying to get him out of the juvenile detention center before his trial.

A bond hearing is scheduled for Monday in the case of 17-year-old Braiden McCahren.

The South Dakota Supreme Court earlier this month ordered a judge to reconsider whether McCahren should be tried in adult court. His two-week trial that was to begin Jan. 21 was called off and not rescheduled.

McCahren pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges in the shooting death last Dec. 18 of 16-year-old Dalton Williams in McCahren's home.

McCahren was 16 and has been in custody without bond for more than a year.
