The spotlight is on Sioux Falls after media reports confirm that Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is the father of a two-year-old toddler fighting for his life after an alleged case of child abuse.
Wednesday evening, police received a call about an unresponsive two year old in southwest Sioux Falls. Authorities say the child was being watched by the mother's boyfriend, 27-year-old Joseph Robert Patterson. He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery of an infant and aggravated assault.
The child was taken to a local hospital and is critical condition.
Rumors of Peterson's link to the child first started circulating after he made a spontaneous trip to Sioux Falls Thursday and was photographed while having lunch as a local restaurant.
Friday morning, former Vikings reporter Sean Jensen tweeted that he had spoken with Peterson's father, Nelson, who confirmed that the child in a Sioux Falls hospital is Adrian Peterson's son, but that the child is not Adrian Peterson, Junior. Sioux Falls Police aren't releasing any information on the child's parents.
"We have. The Sioux Falls Police Department has been in contact with the parents and I have been in contact with the parents and I have been in contact with the parents and their representatives as well," Lincoln County State's Attorney Tom Wollman said.
Perry Groten: Is one of those parents Adrian Peterson?
Wollman: I'm not in a position to discuss any of that with you.
Peterson is reported to be back with the team on Friday. The Minnesota Vikings running back is expected to address the media after practice wraps up around 12:30 p.m.
