A man who was threatening to harm himself is in custody following an early morning standoff in central Sioux Falls.
Sioux Falls police were called to a home in the 600 block of South 3rd Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Wednesday.
They say the suspect's 27-year-old girlfriend left the home with the couple's one-year-old child after a domestic dispute.
When police arrived, 33-year-old Willylon DeNoyer had a utility knife and talked about hurting himself. The couple's seven-year-old and five-year-old children were also inside with him.
The Sioux Falls SWAT Team and negotiators were brought in and officials closed off 3rd Avenue from 14th Street to 18th Street and a portion of 2nd Avenue for several hours as a precaution.
Officails were able to take DeNoyer into custody just before 5 a.m. He's now charged with domestic simple assault and also has outstanding warrants.
