People Finding Unclaimed Property & Money

May 1, 2014, 7:19 AM by Brady Mallory

People Finding Unclaimed Property & Money
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

If you need a little boost in your bank account, we have something you should look into before you take out a loan or tackle a part-time job.

A lot of websites will list unclaimed property or money that is just waiting for you to find it.

Here is one of them we're going to look at, the Office of the South Dakota State Treasurer. All you need to do is go to that website, and there is this handy little link that allows you to search for any unclaimed property you might have.  All you need to do is type in your last name, and the city where you live.

We met up with some random people in Sioux Falls and did searches like this for them.  We managed to surprise a few of them.

Brady: The amount you have that is unclaimed is $229.77.  What do you think about that?

John Jones: Well, that sounds really great.  I've heard advertisings about that before, but I guess I never really checked into it.  Sounds like it's worth checking into.

And, of course, when we met up with these people, there were a lot of questions.  The biggest one I heard was, "is this legitimate," or, "is this a scam?"  We'll go over how you can do this and find legitimate unclaimed property or money that is just waiting to get back to you.  In tonight's Eye on KELOLAND, we'll show you more of these surprise reactions we found.
