A judge has upped the bond on a man charged with murder in the death of a two-year-old boy.
27-year-old Joseph Patterson was indicted by a Lincoln County Grand Jury last week on one count of Second Degree Murder, two alternate counts of First Degree Manslaughter, Aggravated Battery of an Infant and felony child abuse in the death of Tyrese Ruffin.
The boy died two days after being found unresponsive at a southwest Sioux Falls apartment. Police say Patterson was alone with the boy when he was hurt. Doctors determined his head injuries were the result of an assault, not an accident.
On Tuesday, a judge raised Patterson's bond to $1 million from $750,000. Patterson has hired Rapid City attorney Tim Rensch to represent him in court.
Ruffin is the son of Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
