Sioux Falls Fire Rescue reponded to a structure fire along North Prairie Avenue at 3:26 Friday morning after a passerby spotted a garage on fire and called to report it. The person also woke up the residents of the house who were sleeping at the time, unaware of the fire.
When crews arrived on the scene there were a lot of flames. Once they were out, firefighters pulled wooden boards off the garage to reach hot spots.
While the cause is still under investigation, firefighters do know that the fire originated outside the garage.
The heat and humidity was also a challenge for crews who worked to stay hydrated as they battled the flames.
Crews have left the scene but plan to check on it periodically throughout the day for flare-ups.
