Parents Matter is celebrating a successful year. In 2013, not a single South Dakota teenager died in a drunk driving crash.
But the group will keep fighting.
Friday, Parents Matter kicked off its 2014 campaign.
Parents who lost children to drunk driving crashes are sharing their stories so other teens don't make the same mistakes.
“The piece that makes it all work are parents believing in what we're doing. Understanding that the tools we're giving them are really helping them,” Executive Director of Prairie View Prevention Services Darcy Jensen said.
The Parents Matter campaign started in 2006 when the state lost 13 teens to drunk driving crashes.
The group is proud of the progress it’s made in the last eight years, but says it's still just as important as ever for parents to talk to their kids about the dangers of driving drunk or getting in the car with someone who's been drinking.
