You may already be packing up the family car in preparation for a Fourth of July weekend getaway. Many campgrounds are booked solid at South Dakota state parks for the holiday. But there's plenty of wide-open space for day-use visitors.
Campers are surprised that Palisades State Park near Garretson recovered so quickly from flooding earlier this month. Hikers have already returned to the trails that were once underwater following the heavy rain.
