Sioux Falls parents were faced with a slippery situation at Edison Middle School after the school was forced to close due to an early morning water main break.
The domestic water main ruptured close to the perimeter of the building around 7:15 a.m. Thursday.
The Director of Operational Services says they lucked out because a majority of the water went down the street.
Crews are looking into what caused the break and they anticipate things will be back to normal by Friday.
"We'll see how it goes this morning (Thursday) so the contractor is here and ready to go. We got the water turned off and have been pumping the water out so we should be in good shape by tomorrow (Friday). These things always happen with it's cold out,” Operational Services Director Jeff Kreiter said.
School conferences were scheduled for later Thursday evening, but officials are still determining whether or not they'll take place.
Tonight on KELOLAND News, we'll have an update on the water main break and hear from parents who were dropping their kids off at school only to find out that it was canceled.
