Open House For Sioux Falls Pool Renovation

July 11, 2012, 5:25 PM by Michaela Read

Open House For Sioux Falls Pool Renovation
SIOUX FALLS -

There's been a lot of talk about a certain Sioux Falls pool.

"They've been passing out fliers and I've heard about it at every pool we've gone to," Spellerberg pool goer Summer Stoll said.

Spellerberg Park is the center of attention for some renovations.

"It's our oldest pool in Sioux Falls and it's really in a condition now where we need to have a plan for its replacement," Parks and Recreation Director Don Kearney said.

The Sioux Falls Park and Rec. Department wants to give a little twist to the makeover.

"So the money we were potentially going to use for an outdoor aquatic center, we would like to put for an indoor aquatics center," Kearney said.

But before they dive in to construction they want to hear from the public.

"We want to make sure we have their input and feedback on the proposed project before moving forward with any plans to replace the pool," Kearney said.

And it seems there isn't a definite side on how people feel.

"I think it would be kind of great to have, it's just a matter of how much it will cost us," Spellerberg pool goer Adam Vanbeek said.

"I don't think it will matter, one way or the other they will do as they please," Stoll said.

That's why the Parks and Rec. Department wants to hear their opinions and ideas at an open house meeting on Thursday.

"Obviously they're the most directly impacted," Kearney said.

The open house meeting to discuss the Spellerberg master plan is Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Oyate Community Center. The Parks and Rec. Department encourage everyone to attend.
