A Rushmore, MN woman is dead after rear-ending a gravel truck in Rock County, MN.
Just before 2 p.m. Monday, law enforcement responded to a two-vehicle crash on County Road 3, 1/2 mile north of County Road 8.
26-year-old Ashley Von Holtum, of Rushmore, was traveling northbound in a Chevrolet S-10 Crew Cab pickup on County Road 3. An unmanned, controlled burn was being conducted in the area. Authorities report that the wind had picked up and shifted, causing smoke to cross over the roadway.
Von Holtum rear-ended a gravel side dump truck driven by 65-year-old Gary Akkerman, of Luverne, MN. Crews had to extract Von Holtum from the vehicle, where she was airlifted by Trauma 1 and sent to Sanford Sioux Falls. She was pronounced dead at the hospital.
