Jerry Olszewski is the new head football coach of Augustana College.
Olszewski is a 19-year coaching veteran who previously served as head coach for St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. He compiled a record of 32-18 in five seasons at St. Olaf, leading all five teams to records of .500 or better.
Before St. Olaf, Olszewski spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Olszewski says faith, family and football will be the cornerstone of the Augustana program, and he's looking forward to meeting the alumni and engaging in the Sioux Falls community.
"To be very honest, it has been a job that I've always considered very special. As a christian man, and a man who believes in a private liberal arts education, it just fit. It fit really well. As the interview process continued and the pool narrowed, I fell a little bit more in love with the opportunity that may be coming. Coming on campus and meeting the people and seeing the facilities, I'm sold," Olszewski said.
Director of Athletics Bill Gross made the announcement during a news conference Wednesday.
Olszewski is Augustana's 21st head football coach in the program's history.
