The new leader of the South Dakota Oil and Gas Association says he thinks there could be more energy exploration in the state.
The association announced the hiring of Adam Martin as executive director on Monday. Martin is on the board of directors for Northern Hills Federal Credit Union and the Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce, serves as president of the Downtown Sturgis Foundation and is an advisory board member for the Sturgis Business Improvement District.
Martin says South Dakota is well-positioned to serve the oil and gas industry because it's near the Bakken, Niobrara and Power River energy basins. He also thinks South Dakota is "under-explored" when it comes to oil and gas.
