Officials Investigating Fire Near Ipswich
May 11, 2011, 9:47 AM
IPSWICH, SD -
The Ipswich Fire Department has asked the State Fire Marshal to investigate the cause of an early morning restaurant fire east of town.
The call came in some time around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday but firefighters say it probably started well before that. By the time they arrived, flames had spread through the entire attic of the restaurant and bar at Craven Corner, five miles east of Ipswich.
No one was inside the building at the time. Firefighters used equipment from a nearby elevator to haul away propane tanks sitting near the fire.
Family of the woman managing the restaurant and bar said they’ve put a lot of work into remodeling the inside of the building over the past three years. They call the loss devastating.
Firefighters aren’t sure at this time what started the fire.
