Officials ID SD Man Killed In Crash Near Baltic
December 2, 2011, 5:21 PM
BALTIC, SD -
Authorities have identified a Brookings man killed in a two-car crash on Interstate 29 near Baltic.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says 43-year-old David Michael Zerfas was driving southbound about 6:20 a.m. Friday about a mile north of the Baltic exit when the car went out of control and crossed a median into the northbound lane.
Zerfas collided with a car driven by a 35-year-old Madison man. Zerfas was killed, while the Madison man was uninjured.
Authorities say an initial investigation shows Zerfas may have swerved to avoid the remains of a deer in the roadway. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
