As 2013 comes to a close, some will ring in the New Year with a few drinks. If you do, don’t grab your car keys at the end of the night; there are options.
"The service is free. It gets you home safely; it doesn't subject anyone else to any danger," Lightning Towing owner Mark Hexum said.
Hexum’s towing company works with AAA's Tipsy Tow. You can call AAA at 1-800-AAA-HELP (222-4357), and free of charge with no questions asked, Lightning Towing will pick you up and take you and your car safely home.
"If they are at the bar, we'll go pick them up at the bar. Pick up their car and two passengers and take them to their house. That way they are not driving and they get home safely," Hexum said.
AAA's Tipsy Tow runs until January 2 in Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Mitchell and Yankton.
Other bars in Sioux Falls offer bus services, like 18th Amendment. After 11:00 p.m. you can get a sober ride home on the bar bus, all you need to do is ask.
"If you go to the bar, the bar manager will know how to get a hold of that person and get you on the call schedule," general manager Rob Horrocks said.
Another unique way to get home, use a car service. Stellar Limousine says it is nearly booked for New Year's Eve.
"We have everything out but one vehicle right now and we're hoping to have a fun and safe New Year's," Stellar Limousine co-owner Tom Olson said.
These services say it is better for them to take you home then leave yourself and others in danger.
"The more people we can transport safely and keep them from driving while intoxicated, the better," Olson said.
If you don’t have cash for a cab, Linwood Church in Sioux Falls is giving sober rides home on New Year’s Eve. Rides begin at 11:00 p.m. and go until 5:00 a.m. All you need to do is call 605-332-9080.
