St. Joe (8-11, 34-33) jumped back over .500 overall with a 5-3 decision over Sioux Falls(9-9, 25-41). St. Joe broke a tie in the fifth with the long ball and retired the last 10 Canaries hitters to close out the victory.
Each team scored in the first, with St. Joe taking advantage of two walks for a 2-1 lead through one. St. Joe added another in the second on a Scooter Jordan sacrifice fly for a 3-1 cushion.
The Canaries tied it with a pair of two-out runs in the third, but then the Snakes took the lead with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth. The winning run was Ben Thomas solo home run, his fifth of the year. Jake Whitesides added insurance later that inning with an RBI triple, his league-best 10th triple of the season.
Mark Nussbeck (6-3) worked seven efficient innings for the win, allowing just six hits and three runs while striking out seven. Shingo Mitsumori tossed a perfect eighth inning with Jamie Tricoglou earning his tenth save with a one-two-three ninth.
