No travel is advised in the following areas due to extensive street flooding resulting from the heavy rains received Monday afternoon:

Lyon County, IA: Due to downed trees and flooding.

Dickinson County, IA

Canton, SD: Highway 18 is flooded.  Volunteers are needed to help with sandbagging.  They are meeting at the National Guard Armory.

Highway 11 south of Harrisburg: Closed due to water over the road.

Turner County, SD

If you see water standing on a road, please do not attempt to cross. There are a number of reports of stalled vehicles that tried to pass through floodwaters.

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Management and Highway Department are also urging drivers to use extreme caution when traveling on county highways following this afternoon’s severe weather. Many county highways and township roads are submerged and impassable at this time. The current conditions have the potential to cause damage to roadways and structures that may not be immediately obvious. Drivers are reminded never to travel into a submerged section of roadway.

The Murray County Sheriff's Office is requesting that drivers use extreme caution throughout Murray County, especially in low-lying areas and near creeks and rivers. There are numerous areas if water going over the roadways and in some cases, washing out roads. Water levels are continuing to rise.

Citizens are also advised to be aware of electrical lines and equipment that may be damaged or submerged due to flooding.
