Nine Human West Nile Cases Confirmed In South Dakota

SIOUX FALLS, SD -

South Dakota's West Nile count continues to climb.

According to state health officials, nine human cases have now been confirmed this season.

In addition, seven prospective blood donors have tested positive for the mosquito-borne virus.

All tolled, 11 counties in South Dakota are reporting human cases of West Nile. The area being hardest hit is Brown County.

Nationwide, four people have died from West Nile infections.
