New Year, New You Helps Families Start Year Off Right

January 4, 2014, 6:00 PM by Leland Steva

New Year, New You Helps Families Start Year Off Right

With a last minute rush of donations and support from sponsors all around the area, New Year New You was able to go off smoothly today.

The event helps people and families in need to start the New Year on a positive note. There was lunch provided and people were able to bring clothes and books home with them. This wasn't just a short-term answer for people in need, as it also helped with communication with area homeless shelters, social services, Feeding South Dakota and more. This is a first time event, and it is trying to help not just the people in need, but the entire community.

“I feel it can break a whole bunch of comfort walls and help people step out of their day-to-day and just do something different that helps another person's life,” Youth Assistant Sam Kennedy said.

The event brought in an estimated 242 needy people. Kennedy says there was only around two months of fundraising to put on New Year, New You for the first time.
