It's not a franchise -- The owners of the former IHOP Restaurant on East 10th Street are starting a new restaurant concept from scratch.
It will be called Macho Nacho Mexican Grill and the food will be homemade. Tami Smith, of Great Plains Restaurant Group, based in Fargo, says Macho Nacho is a completely separate company that owners have spent months developing.
The IHOP restaurant closed in January. Crews are currently remodeling the interior and Smith says they've spent four months working on the menu. Smith says the restaurant will feature items you don't expect at Mexican restaurants, like pork chops and fish.
Smith says new signage will go up soon and the owners will be counting on customer feedback to refine the Macho Nacho concept. The new restaurant will open in June and employ 50 people.
Great Plain Restaurant Group also closed its Aberdeen IHOP April 1. The company hasn't yet determined what will go in that location. Macho Nacho Mexican Grill will be the ninth restaurant for the group's owners.
