From a distance, the new County Fair Food Store in Dell Rapids looks large. For customers on the inside, it's impressive.
"It looks like a lot more options than what the old one had," shopper Miranda Wickert said.
This store is 35,000 square feet. That's more than double the size of the store it replaces.
"It looks really nice. It kind of seems like Hy-Vee. I was told it was going to be as big as Hy-Vee. I just kind of walked around the front right now and am looking around," Wickert said.
Construction on this new store started six months ago. Some who work for County Fair spent their weekend moving some of the products from the old location to the brand new facility.
"We opened at six and it's gone real smooth actually," County Fair store manager Byron Busk said.
Busk says the larger store means more steps for the staff, but also a larger selection for customers. Plus the store will soon have gas pumps and a Lewis Pharmacy.
"Everyone is here in town and not having to drive to get them. The employment opportunities, having a new, larger store, we've hired about 20 more people so far with a few more yet," Busk said.
That also adds tax revenue to the town, which is another reason why those shopping here think this community and those surrounding it, will support the larger store.
"I think they will. It offers more jobs and opportunities to have the food you want, closer," Wickert said.
One neat feature of the store is that it uses all LED lighting. As for the old location, the 15,000 square foot facility is for sale.
