Nieman Timber Co. has donated $50,000 to the Spearfish Canyon Mountain Pine Beetle Project in its ongoing effort to save trees from the devastating insects.
The project falls under the Lawrence County Mountain Pine Beetle Program.
John Nieman says that the sawmill company made the donation to help thwart the beetle epidemic that "has the potential of destroying if not all, a good portion of the Black Hills tree stands."
In 2012, the company donated $50,000 cash and an additional $50,000 for in-kind services to the Lawrence County program. Neiman says the company will continue in-kind services, though it's not yet been determined how much for 2013.
