Neighbors React To SF Murder-Suicide

August 6, 2014, 9:55 PM by Jared Ransom

Neighbors React To SF Murder-Suicide
SIOUX FALLS, SD -

Neighbors in a historic part of Sioux Falls are still trying to come to grips with what has happened in their neighborhood. After gunshots early in the afternoon, police discovered two people dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

"Complete surprise, to tell you the truth. I'm as shocked as anybody would be," Greg Jude said.

Jude was painting in the back yard when he walked to the end of the ally and found a scene full of activity.

"We saw at least two police cars and two ambulances and we thought 'This must be pretty serious,'" Jude said.

Police says that the man and woman that were found were in a relationship and that another person, a relative, witnessed the shooting.

Pat Kane discovered what happened after returning home mid-afternoon. He can see the crime scene from his front door.

"A thing like that is shocking to hear that people would be moved to do such a thing, to be so affected by whatever events they've lived through to make them do that," Kane said.

It's a violent act that both Jude and Kane feel is becoming all too common through the city, also they both say their neighborhood is typically quiet, making this murder-suicide even more disturbing.

Neighbors say they are still in shock over what took place Wednesday afternoon, but they also know that this could've happened anywhere else in the city.

"It's a shock, and it's a shock no matter what neighborhood it's in because you don't know the relationship that's going on or what forces are driving such a thing or why the people did what they did," Kane said.

"It shows you it can happen anywhere. So, it's got to be terrible for the families and relatives of those two people," Jude said.

Both Kane and Jude say they didn't know anyone who lived in the building. They also have never felt like they were in any kind of danger by living where they are.
