Nebraska Senator Wants Answers On Clunker Program
August 25, 2009, 7:23 AM
U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns has joined several other Republican senators seeking answers regarding reimbursements to car dealers through the federal government's popular Cash for Clunkers program.
Johanns was among several GOP senators - including Kay Bailey Hutchison of Texas, Olympia Snowe of Maine and John Thune of South Dakota - to sign a letter to U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood sent late Monday.
The letter says many dealers have yet to receive reimbursements for their submitted program applications, even though the law requires reimbursements be made within 10 days of eligible submission.
The senators ask LaHood for a variety of information - including the total reimbursed to dealers - on a weekly basis, broken down by state.
