National Guard Soldiers Return To Luverne

May 6, 2012, 10:01 PM by Hailey Higgins

National Guard Soldiers Return To Luverne
LUVERNE, MN -

More than 150 Minnesota National Guard soldiers are home after spending several months overseas. The A battery of the 125th Field Artillery Battalion returned to Luverne Sunday morning.

After nine months apart, Specialist Blaine Collin's son Abel can finally put his arms around his father. Collin's spent the last nine months serving in Kuwait.

"It's a relief but it just doesn't seem quite real yet. There is so much that's going on," Collin said.

While stationed overseas, the soldiers provided critical convoy security, Naval base defense and general security in the area.

More than 1,000 people came to attend the homecoming to welcome soldiers who sacrificed so much for the country.

"Seeing how much my son has grown since I've been gone is a big thing. I feel like I missed a lot, but hopefully I can make up for it here in the next year," Specialist Madson said.

"We are really happy to have him back. It's been quite a while since we've had him around," Angela Madson said.

After being away for so long, we asked soldiers what they are looking forward to the most now that they’re back home.

"Sleeping in a full-sized bed. My feet hang off all the beds in Kuwait," Collin said.

"Just relax. Sit down and relax," Madson said.
