An official with the Shoshone National Forest has been named acting district ranger in charge of the Fort Pierre National Grassland in South Dakota.

Current district ranger Ruben Leal is leaving his post later this month to accept a Bureau of Land Management position in California. Leal has been in charge of the 116,000-acre Fort Pierre National Grassland the past four years.

Jason Brey will become acting district ranger on Jan. 21 and will serve for about four months. He will be given the chance to apply for the position permanently.
