The South Dakota Highway Patrol has now released the names of the people involved in Saturday's deadly crash on Interstate 29.
Authorities say 27-year-old Jeremy Johnson, of Sioux Falls, was driving a 1986 Ford Crown Victoria northbound on I-29 when he lost control of his vehicle, entered the median and then slid sideways before entering the southbound driving lanes. After entering the southbound lanes of I-29, his vehicle was struck on the passenger side by a 2012 Buick Enclave in the middle lane. Upon impact, the Crown Victoria was split in half. Both halves of the vehicle then caught on fire.
Johnson was ejected from his seat and he sustained fatal injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver and passenger in the Enclave, Loren and Rebecca Converse, both 72-years-old from Arlington, sustained minor injuries; they were wearing seatbelts and were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
