Names Released In Accident Near Madison

MADISON, SD -
We're learning more about a fatal accident near Madison that happened after a boat and trailer detached from a pickup.
Officials say a 46-year-old Michael Nelson of Lake Preston, was driving a Chevrolet pickup pulling a boat and trailer around 4 p.m. Sunday. Nelson was traveling north on Highway 81 when the boat and trailer disengaged from the pickup.
The boat and trailer crossed over the center of the road and collided with a southbound Ford pickup, driven by 50-year-old Roger Hopf of Madison who received minor injuries. The female passenger, 46-year-old Rebecca Hopf, died from injuries in the accident.
Nelson was not injured in the crash.
Officials say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
