A man and woman are dead after a murder-suicide inside a central Sioux Falls home.
The two were found dead of gunshot wounds just before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say the two people who were found dead were in a relationship and a third person, who was in the house at the time, was a relative who witnessed the shooting.
"At this point the relationship of the two persons is trying to be established so hopefully we'll come up with something in regards to that," Sioux Falls Police Lieutenant Matt Burns said.
The home is at 607 W. 7th Street just west of downtown Sioux Falls.
The news of the murder-suicide came as a shock to Jonathan Richardson who lives next door.
"We've never had any violence anywhere within four blocks of this area so it’s really really surprising," Richardson said.
Officers say they have question the relative about what took place in the moments leading up to the shooting.
"We determined them to be a witness at this point so we're trying to find out what they know," Burns said.
But police are not identifying the two who were found dead at this point.
Richardson says several people lived in the home. He says they had just moved into the home in the last month.
"There was more than one woman there. I usually saw two or three women on the porch so there was a pretty big family there, or a big group of people," Richardson said.
Police hope to release the identities of the man and woman who died after they notify family members.
