Morning Fundraiser To Help Injured Trooper

The community along with a fast food restaurant is coming together in support of South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Andrew Steen. He was injured two weeks ago when he was run over by a car while on duty in Southern Sioux Falls.

Monday morning, all Sioux Falls Taco John's held a fundraiser to help him and his family. And for the employees, it's more than just raising money for a good cause.

You've probably heard the slogan; "My town, my Taco John's." General Manager Ted Miller says that slogan that has made Taco John's in Sioux Falls get involved in many things affecting the community.

"We take for granted sometimes what police officers and firefighters do for us.  It was an opportunity for us to jump in and get involved and help this officer," Miller said.

For the past few weeks, the community has been rallying in support of Trooper Steen. Now Taco John's wants to do its part to lend a helping hand.

"We have such a great customer base and to be part of the community, it takes doing these things and recognizing when the community wants us to do these things and be part of an event," Miller said.

And ever since announcing the fundraiser, Taco John's has been flooded with support.

"I don't know what we are going to see.  My gut says the community is overwhelmingly showing support right now and we are getting calls and emails when and how, and how we can help," Miller said.

The fundraiser continues through 10:30 a.m. with fifty percent of the proceeds from sales going to Trooper Steen.

Two banks in Sioux Falls are also helping out. First Bank and Trust has offered to match $1,000 and Thriven It Financial-Lutherans will match $2,000 raised.
