Morning Apartment Fire Turns Deadly

One person is dead in an early morning apartment fire in north Sioux Falls. Firefighters responded to the building on the 1000 block of North Covell Avenue just after 4 a.m. Tuesday and found smoke and flames coming from the top floor of the building. 

They evacuated the building and took 26-year-old Heath Westphal from the building on a stretcher.  He later died. The Sioux Falls Police Department is investigating the cause of death.

Some people evacuated from the apartment building have been allowed back inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
