SIOUX FALLS, SD -
Finding good help is getting to be a job in itself.
With the unemployment rate at 3 percent, there are lots of job openings in Sioux Falls and companies are having a tough time finding people to fill those positions.
It's a sign of the times. With the economy doing well once again in Sioux Falls, employers are looking for help.
We found three businesses in a one block area on 41st Street advertising they're hiring.
But it's been no party.
"It seems like the response was less this time, than we had in the past," Play It Again Sports owner Dave Rust said.
Rust has been advertising for an assistant manager for six weeks now, but so far hasn't had any luck. Since it's an assistant manager's position, Rust admits he's pretty particular.
"We hire who we think are going to, even on a part time basis, we hire who we think are going to be here multiple years," Rust said.
Like most jobs, there's a lot to learn and get trained on.
"If they're here a few months, just a total waste of our time, it takes a good year to cycle through, do all the sports once to get a feel for it," Rust said.
And business owners we talked with say finding good help is one of the most trying parts of the job.
"I do not like it, probably one of the worse things about the job you can deal with it part time, not as big a deal, I don't even like that," Rust said
The Department of Labor says there are over 3,100 job openings right now in the Sioux Falls area. Some retail stores are advertising they need 50 cashiers for the upcoming holidays.
