More 'Buzz' Than Normal Surrounding VP Debate

More 'Buzz' Than Normal Surrounding VP Debate

Vice President Joe Biden and Republican Vice Presidential nominee Paul Ryan will face off in their first and only debate on Thursday night.

Typically the Vice Presidential debate doesn't have that much of an affect on a Presidential campaign, but there is more buzz surrounding Thursday's debate between Biden and Ryan.

Part of it is that Biden has a passionate personality and is somewhat flamboyant. Voters also want to find out more about Ryan and what he stands for.

But Augustana College Political Science Professor Emily Wanless says Mitt Romney's strong showing and President Barack Obama's lack-luster performance during the first Presidential debate last week has also put more importance on Thursday's event.

"Given the large impact that we see from the Presidential debate last week we may have to throw history aside for this one and say there's a good chance there could be an impact, whether it's on how the rest of the campaign unfolds or whether it could have an over-arching impact on the electoral outcome on Election Day," Wanless said.

Thursday's debate starts at 8 p.m. central time on KELOLAND-TV.

While this will be the only Vice Presidential debate President Obama and Romney will face-off two more times this month.
