A crash involving a moped sent its driver to the hospital with life-threatening injuries early Thursday morning.
Sioux Falls Police say around 1:52 a.m., a Mercury Sable was headed westbound on 26th Street over Interstate 229 when it turned onto Yeager Road. That's the road that connects traffic to I-229 southbound.
A woman on a moped was headed east on 26th Street when she drove into the side of the turning vehicle. She was taken to Avera Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her father called KELOLAND News Thursday morning to offer an update on her situation. He says she is now in critical condition and will have surgery later today. Her name has not been released.
Police are unsure who had the right of way. The driver of the car told them the light was yellow as they were turning but they're not sure whether it had turned red when the moped hit them.
Police also say alcohol was a factor in the crash.
