Monday Afternoon Business Brief

Investors have hit a pause button on the recent rally. Last week's advance took the blue chip averages to the highest levels since before the financial crisis.

  • The number of long delays in July involving planes stuck on airport tarmacs totaled more than the previous eight months combined. The government says 28 planes were stuck on the ground at U.S. airports for more than three hours in July. Eighteen of the planes were operated by U.S. Carriers.
  • It looks like Apple's latest phone is much more popular than its predecessor, so far. Apple says orders for the iPhone 5 topped 2 million in their first 24 hours, more than double the amount of the 4S over the same period.
  • A federal appeals judge in New York has agreed to delay a court challenge to Google's plans to create the world's largest digital library. The court is considering whether authors should receive class action status.
  • Police say more than 100 people have been arrested as Occupy Wall Street protesters march in small groups around Manhattan's financial district. They're marking the anniversary of the grass-roots movement. Similar events are planned in more than 30 cities around the world.
