Moisture Doing Better In The Winter

February 3, 2013, 10:04 PM by Scot Mundt

Moisture Doing Better In The Winter

The recent six to 12 inches of snow in northeast KELOLAND earlier this week is a sign that this winter is a lot different than last winter.  The eight inches of snow that fell in Aberdeen is more than any one month of all of last year.

The increase in moisture is being felt for a lot of KELOLAND not only when compared to last winter, but when compared to last summer.  We went ahead and looked at some of the precipitation numbers from June and July and compared them to December and January, here's what we came up with.

Sioux Falls has actually received more precip in December and January, than in June and July. This winter is at 138 percent of average while the two summer months were only 14 percent. Mitchell has seen a lot of water as compared to average at 190 percent. The summer was at 26 percent. And so on down the list to Rapid City, who is the only one on the list under average for the winter at 97 percent.

While we'll be starting February mostly dry, things might get active again soon.
